Craving a destination that effortlessly intertwines stunning natural landscapes, exhilarating adventures, and immersive cultural experiences? Oludeniz (Ölüdeniz) nestled along the captivating Turquoise Coast of Turkey and just a stone’s throw from Greece, emerges as the ideal gem you’ve been searching for. It is one of the most photographed beaches in Turkey (if you know me now, you should know I’m fond of photography).
Moreover, Turkey’s premier beach resort, Ölüdeniz draws crowds, especially between June and September. However, for those seeking a more serene escape with budget-friendly options, the shoulder months of May to early June and September to October offer the perfect balance of pleasant weather, fewer visitors, and enticing deals. I was there in September by the end of the summer holidays and the weather was pleasant and it was less crowded.
In the peak months of July to August, temperatures soar to the mid-40s with minimal rainfall. The shoulder months maintain a comfortable mid-30s range, making Oludeniz an attractive destination year-round.
For those eager to explore Oludeniz, let’s delve into the details—how to reach this paradise, activities that await, and a touch of its fascinating history along the way. Besides, your journey to Oludeniz promises not just sun-kissed beaches but a memorable experience in every sense.
Join me in this article as I unveil five reasons why Oludeniz should unequivocally claim a top spot on your travel bucket list.

How to get to Oludeniz
Great news! Oludeniz is easily accessible, whether you prefer flying, taking a coach, or driving. The choice is yours, and reaching this beautiful destination is a breeze.
For international travel, catch a direct flight to Dalaman Airport on Turkey’s South coast. Keep in mind, during winter, finding flights might be trickier, but connecting through Istanbul is always an option.
If you’re a budget-friendly solo traveler, my suggestion is to opt for a coach to Fethiye, the main town. From the Fethiye bus station, hop on a small bus, almost like a van, to reach Oludeniz. Payment is typically in cash. This affordable journey ensures you get to your destination with ease.
In my personal experience, I spent three wonderful days in Cappadocia before embarking on a night coach journey to Oludeniz. For those considering a similar route, I highly recommend purchasing your coach ticket on the spot and using cash – it’s a more cost-effective option. This way, you not only enjoy the convenience of spontaneous travel decisions but also save on your journey to the picturesque Oludeniz.
1.Paraglide Over Paradise
The first reason to visit Oludeniz is for paragliding. For adventurous souls, Oludeniz offers an unparalleled experience – paragliding over the stunning landscapes from the nearby Babadag Mountain. This means you get amazing views right over the sea, the entire region, the mountains, and of course, the stunning Blue Lagoon. You will go to around 1960 meters before taking off.
A small cable conveniently takes you to the summit of Babadag Mountain. Even if paragliding isn’t on your agenda, I highly recommend a visit to the mountain for the unparalleled views nature generously unfolds. It’s a breathtaking experience that showcases the beauty of Oludeniz from a perspective that will undoubtedly leave you in awe. From the top it is possible to see the Butterfly Valley, a famous beach that is another attraction of the region, and, on the clearest days, even Rhodes can be seen, in Greece.
Indeed, Oludeniz stands as one of Europe’s most stunning destinations, offering a breathtaking panorama that deserves a spot on every traveler’s bucket list. The experience goes beyond mere admiration – you can check off a thrilling adventure by paragliding amidst this magnificent view. Oludeniz is not just a place; it’s a picturesque canvas waiting for you to paint your unforgettable memories.
If the thrill of paragliding is on your agenda, here are some key details to keep in mind:
- Suitable for individuals in good health, aged between 4 to 85 years, with a weight range from 35kg to 100kg
- The majestic Babadag mountain serves as the launching point for paragliding adventures in Oludeniz
- The takeoff is as exhilarating as the flight itself – a brief run, a lift from the wind, and you’re soaring upwards
- While you can’t bring your phone or camera along, fear not! As part of your package, your tandem ‘driver’ will skillfully use a selfie stick to capture breathtaking photos of you in flight and the stunning landscape below. Your paragliding experience becomes a memorable visual journey.
2.The Blue Lagoon
Oludeniz is home to one of the world’s most iconic natural wonders—the Blue Lagoon. The mesmerising shades of turquoise in its calm, crystal-clear waters are nothing short of magical. Whether you seek relaxation on its shores or a thrilling dip in its azure depths, the Blue Lagoon is a sight to behold.
Venturing into a national conservation area, a small entry fee guarantees you access to a tranquil haven. Boat-free waters ensure a serene day, perfect for unwinding. Families, in particular, will appreciate the calm waters, offering a safe haven for swimming.
3. Be a pirate for a day and hidden coves
Escape the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in the tranquility of Oludeniz’s hidden treasures. From the enchanting Butterfly Valley to the secluded shores of Kidrak Beach, these off-the-beaten-path havens provide a serene escape, inviting you to unwind and forge a deeper connection with nature.
One of my most cherished days in Oludeniz unfolded as I embarked on a full-day excursion with GetYourGuide. To my delight, upon reaching the beach, I discovered that our adventure would unfold aboard a pirate boat. The atmosphere was alive with music and vibrant vibes, creating an unforgettable experience. Exploring hidden coves and, particularly, the mesmerizing Butterfly Valley left an indelible mark on me. The azure waters felt almost magical, prompting me to climb a cliff and revel in the joy of splashing in the crystalline water. It was a day filled with adventure, beauty, and the kind of magic that lingers in your memories.
4. Visit Fethiye
Fethiye is a great reason to visit Oludeniz in Turkey. This charming town is full of history and beautiful sights. You can explore ancient Lycian rock tombs and check out interesting artifacts at the Fethiye Museum. The town itself is lively, with colorful markets, a lovely waterfront, and cozy cafes.
Whether you’re into history, culture, or just want a relaxing getaway, Fethiye has something for everyone, making it a must-visit when you explore Oludeniz.
5. Saklikent Gorge
Saklikent Gorge’s proximity to Oludeniz adds to its allure, making it an easily accessible and worthwhile day trip. Situated approximately 50 kilometers from Fethiye, the gorge is a scenic one-hour drive away. You can opt for various transportation options, including local buses, taxis, or organized tours from Fethiye.
For those staying in Oludeniz, the gorge is a bit closer, located around 35 kilometers away. A short drive of about 45 minutes or a convenient bus ride connects Oludeniz to Saklikent Gorge.
